Finding Purpose Through Design and Connection with Elizabeth Toombs (144)
Welcome back to another heartfelt episode of Little Give. Today, I am thrilled to introduce you to an incredible guest whose unique path and passion for service truly inspired me. Meet Elizabeth Toombs, the owner of PDR Interiors, an interior design firm with offices in Tennessee and Kentucky that specializes in creating beautiful, functional, and meaningful spaces for sorority houses across the country.
In this episode, Elizabeth shares how she unexpectedly discovered her calling in Greek housing design and how her work has evolved into something much deeper than creating beautiful rooms. She opens up about the importance of connection, community, and mental well being, especially for college students navigating some of the most transformative years of their lives. Elizabeth also reveals how her experience teaching during the pandemic shaped her understanding of human connection and inspired her to pursue certifications in science and design to better support the emotional needs of the students she serves.
We talk about everything from the joy of project reveals to the challenge of understanding the many voices involved in communal design, to the ripple effect that kindness and thoughtful spaces can create in a young person’s life. Elizabeth also shares her passion for mentoring emerging designers, her journey in podcasting with her show Sorority Chat, and the touching story behind the scholarship she founded in memory of her mother for students who have lost a parent to cancer. This fund, housed at the University of Kentucky, helps ease the financial burden that so often becomes overwhelming when a parent passes away. It is a powerful way Elizabeth continues to create opportunities for others in honor of her mother’s legacy.
You can learn more about Elizabeth, her work, and her mission through the links below. If the scholarship touched your heart, please consider supporting it. Even a small donation can create a life changing difference for a student navigating loss while trying to pursue higher education.
